Leading the Country – Sunday River Opens First

Riding in Maine in October

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this, but Sunday River was the first resort in the country to fire up its lifts for the 2010-2011 ski season.  This past Friday, October 22, Sunday River officially became the first resort to open, beating famed early openers Loveland and A-Basin in Colorado.  Though no stranger to early openings (Sunday River has been the first resort on the East Coast to open for the last four seasons in a row), they have never opened before the Colorado heavy hitters.  Another feather in the cap for the East Coast.  Despite one lift and two trails, I think I know where I’ll be going this weekend.  Break out the rock skis and head to Maine!
